Item Build

What to buy, when, and why

Doran's Blade
Doran's Blade
Default item — you will take it in 98% of matchups.
Doran's Shield
Doran's Shield
Take this in all the high range and poke matchups like Teemo or Rumble.
Gluttonous Greaves
Gluttonous Greaves
Excellent in mixed damage compositions and the best boots for Urgot overall.
Steelcaps
Plated Steelcaps
Very good in 2/3+ AD team and a good rush in Ambessa, Tryndamere, Jayce.
Mercury's
Mercury's Treads
Essential in high CC compositions. Rush against Kennen.

Black Cleaver is the only first item — every game, no exception. You need to prioritise this over everything like potions, boots, Magic Resist or armor. Except in some matchups where boots are good to rush first like Yasuo, Ambessa, Kennen…

Cull
refilable potion
600g
The cheapest "good" back for Urgot. It delays your BC spike and is only good in low interaction MUs like Garen or K'Sante.
Long Sword
ruby crystal
750g
Not a great back — it's just before Pickaxe but it does the job.
Kindlegem
800g — NEVER BUY
The worst item to build ever. Gives no good stats.
Bramble Vest
800g
Only buy on first back in specific MUs like Wukong, Renekton, Irelia, Fiora to destroy their lane.
Pickaxe
875g — THE component
Pickaxe is THE component to first buy for Black Cleaver. It's great if you can back to buy it.
Phage
1100g
Phage first back is a great back due to the HP, AD and MS. It lets you trade more and apply a lot more pressure in lane.
Pickaxe
Long Sword
1225g — BEST back
Pickaxe and a Long Sword is THE BEST back — it's a late back because you need a lot of gold but you get so much stat for its value.
✦ What Item to Build
Core Items
Essential every game
Black Cleaver
Black Cleaver
The first item of Urgot — essential every game.
Sterak's Gage
Sterak's Gage
Usually the second item for Urgot in 90% of games — can be built 3rd at the profit of a Deadman's Plate if enemy team has 3+ AD.
Great Items
Highly recommended — build often
Rookern
Rookern
Excellent in burst AP (Magic) damage. Like Syndra, Ryze, Gwen, Aurora (Luden's).
Randuin's Omen
Randuin's Omen
OP in 2+ crit compositions — so almost all ADCs and Yasuo, Yone, Viego…
Force of Nature
Force of Nature
Great buy in burn champion compositions like Teemo, Aurelion, Malzahar. Gives MS which is excellent on Urgot.
Deadman's Plate
Deadman's Plate
Great in high mobility compositions and huge slow — very good armor item if enemy team doesn't have a lot of crit. Good vs Ashe, Illaoi, Smolder…
Good Items
Situationally strong — pick wisely
Thornmail
Thornmail
The only anti heal item you will ever do on Urgot. Build Bramble Vest and finish it as your last item — it's not worth completing before your other items.
Chempunk Chainsword
Chempunk Chainsword
If you build greavous boot it value rise a lot over thornmail, make you really tanky and give you some good damage.
Jak'Sho
Jak'Sho, The Protean
Great item but only in 4th or 5th slot (not counting boots). Its passive scales with bonus resistances so you need to build defensive items first to make it effective.
Overlord's Bloodmail
Overlord's Bloodmail
This item fell off but is still good on Urgot. Build it if you need to carry a game and need more damage — in S16 a more tanky Urgot is better.
Situational Items
Niche — only in specific scenarios
Shojin
Spear of Shojin
Only build Shojin in 2+ tank or HP stacker compositions, like Mundo, Cho'Gath, Skarner, Alistar… It boosts your passive and helps taking them down faster.
Serpent's Fang
Serpent's Fang
Only build on Urgot when enemy team has a lot of shields (Karma, Lulu, Ivern…) and no one else in your team can build it. It's not a great item on Urgot.
Frozen Heart
Frozen Heart
Almost never build in game. The only reason you can possibly build it: it's the highest armor item available and if there are 2/3+ attack speed dependent champions.
Hullbreaker
Hullbreaker
Less and less useful this season — the only way you can use it is if your team is really behind and your lane opponent can't stop you from pushing, so you can create a 4v4 or 4v3 at objectives for your team.
Bad Items — Never Build These
Avoid at all costs
Tiamat
Tiamat
All tiamat items have no synergy with Urgot's kit — you have built-in wave clear with your legs. A pure waste of gold.
Stridebreaker
Stridebreaker
Bad item on Urgot — you already have a slow on Q and the active is redundant. Very inefficient stats for the cost.
Death dance
Death's Dance
Looks tempting but gives no tankiness. It's hard nerf for range so you basicly have no passive and it's kill you more than anything.
Maw of malmortius
Maw of Malmortius
Bad stats for Urgot — Deny you of a Sterak's, the passive shield triggers too late and the AD is wasted. Build Rookern or FoN instead for AP matchups.
Endless Hunger
Endless Hunger
Pure damage item with no tankiness — Greavous boot give you the same without commiting an item. You will die instantly with this.
Bastion Breaker
Bastion Breaker
Never build this on Urgot — Nerf for range, the tower damage are super situational, if oyu need to split do hullbreaker.

Deathfire Touch
Niche Keystone
Deathfire Touch
Deathfire Touch will only be useful in matchups where you can auto or trade freely like Heimerdinger. It provides burn damage on hit which helps sustain poke in difficult lanes.

Precision Tree — Primary
Standard Precision Choices
Keystone Press the Attack
Row 1 Triumph vs Presence of Mind if you need mana
Row 2 Bloodline Lifesteal for sustain
Row 3 Last Stand Cut Down vs high HP
Triumph restores HP on kill which is huge for chaining kills. Bloodline gives lifesteal to stay in lane. Last Stand is best when you're low HP fighting, Cut Down is better vs high HP targets like tanks or Darius/Aatrox.
Secondary standard
Sorcery Tree — Secondary (Standard)
Triple Tonic + Approach Velocity
Row 1 Triple Tonic
Row 2 Approach Velocity
Triple Tonic gives 3 pots at start which is huge sustain, and also gives ability haste. Approach Velocity lets you close the gap when you slow with Q — essential for chasing and executing enemies.
Olaf page sorcery
Sorcery Tree — Secondary (Vs Olaf)
Nimbus Cloak + Celerity
Row 1 Nimbus Cloak
Row 2 Celerity
Only vs Olaf. Nimbus Cloak gives insane Move Speed (like a mini Ghost) when you cast a summoner spell — essential to escape his R. Celerity boosts your bonus MS by 7% which is a lot when combined with Nimbus Cloak.
Resolve secondary
Resolve Tree — Secondary (Resolution)
Bone Plating + Overgrowth
Row 1 Bone Plating
Row 2 Overgrowth
Bone Plating reduces incoming burst damage from combos — perfect vs Renekton and Shen who spam multi-hit combos. Overgrowth scales your HP across the game giving you more durability for executing R.
Second Wind page
Resolve Tree — Secondary (Vs Rumble)
Second Wind + Unflinching
Row 1 Second Wind
Row 2 Unflinching
Second Wind regenerates HP after taking damage from champions — crucial for surviving Rumble's Q burn poke. Unflinching helps you resist the slow from his E so you can reposition during fights.
